Overview of the stages and sub-sections of the GR92

View back to the Cap de Creus nature reserve (stage 3)

The total of 10 stages on which you can hike along the entire Costa Brava on the GR92 can be divided into three sections, at the beginning and end of which there are relatively good connections to public transport. So if you only have a week, you can skip the third and last section, for example, and get on the bus in Palamós at the end of stage 7. Short hikes for extended weekends are also quite possible.

The marking of the trail is excellent throughout: with the help of the many signs and the marking with red and white stripes, it is actually impossible to get lost. Additionally helpful is a smartphone app with GPS function and offline maps (e.g. the Viewranger app) in combination with the hiking routes available here as GPX file download (to the GPX file download).

Elevation profile of the GR92

The ten stages of the GR-92 on the Costa Brava are very different in terms of terrain, as the following altitude profile shows (the grid lines indicate the start of each new stage):

But beware: even supposedly flat sections can be more strenuous than expected due to the constant ups and downs on the steep coast! Good footwear is essential! Regardless of the weather - both in dry heat and in wet conditions - we recommend Hiking boots with ankle-high shaft. With flatter hiking boots without an upper, there is a risk of slipping and twisting. The slightly higher hiking boots give more stability - especially when hiking with luggage for several days, this is crucial for choosing the right shoes.

Luggage transport

We have been asked time and again whether there is a possibility to have your luggage transported from place to place on the Costa Brava. So far, we have always had to answer in the negative. Recently, however, we were approached by a taxi company from Roses on the Costa Brava that offers luggage transport on the Costa Brava. A short survey on our website showed that there is great interest in such an offer (survey results here).

That is why we are pleased to announce with immediate effect CostaBravaTaxi who now offer luggage transport tailored to our stage planning. Important: Anyone interested in luggage transport, should consider the following advice from us on this.
